About Us

FIRST COOPERATIVE OF SNAIL-BREEDERS, Novi Sad, was created in the beginning of the year 2003, with the aim to develop this agricultural branch that has been disregarded in our country. Export of live snails is traced back to 1950s, and the profit made in this way wasn’t negligent, but it was the privilege of the few.

The Cooperative currently includes about 100 farms on the territory of Serbia and Montenegro.

While developing the idea of organized way of snail breeding, we have also found solutions and improvements to lessen the production costs without affecting the quality of products.

The leading national institutes conduct all analyses of soil, snails and the rest:

Soil-samples analysis is done at the INSTITUTE OF FIELD AND VEGETABLE CROPS, Department for Soil, Agroecology and Fertilizers, Laboratory in Novi Sad, where besides the required analyses we get beneficial references regarding fertilizing.

Analyses of snail-conditions, and suggestions for optimal solutions regarding snail-health protection, as well as laboratory tests of quality of snails’ meat, are done at the SCIENTIFIC VETERINARY INSTITUTE “Novi Sad”,
ISO 9001.

The development of the experimental farm is supported by America's Development Foundation (ADF), the non-government organization that is implementing a five-year CRDA (Community Revitalization through Democratic Action) program sponsored by the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) mission in Serbia.
